Outdoor lower body workout - circuit training!

Hey everyone,

It was a beautiful day, so we decided to take our training outdoors and do our lower body workout in the backyard.  It's always refreshing to change up your routine, especially when you get to enjoy your exercise outdoors, with the fresh air and sunshine.  The new setting will help you with motivation and ensures a truly enjoyable workout!

For our outdoor lower body workout, we decided to do circuit training.  We carried out a pair of kettlebells for each of us (Tannys - 12kg; Alex - 24kg).  The following 6 exercises comprised a circuit and we did three circuits in total (with a brief rest period in between each):

  • Side-to-side toe touches
  • 1.5 rep double kettlebell squats (see previous post for explanation of 1.5 rep concept)
  • Double kettlebell one-leg deadlifts
  • Double kettlebell overhead lunges
  • Overhead kettlebell swings
  • One-leg, alternating hip bridges

Although we chose these 6 exercises, you can easily modify this routine by substituting different exercises to suit your capacity, goals, and the time you have to workout.  Even doing a shorter workout with just a few exercises will make a significant difference in your day - try it and see!

We believe the most important part of fitness is consistency.  It is not about having any one amazing workout, but incorporating fitness and activity into each and every day.  The cumulative effect of being consistently active will surprise you.  It will help you become the person that deep inside you know you can be - it will help you realize your potential.
