Full body workout: Play Time

Hey everyone,

In this full body workout, we felt like having a bit more fun and being creative.  Thus, we decided to do an unstructured 'play time' workout.  As the name suggests, you try out different exercises based on what you feel like doing, without worrying as much about sets, reps, rest periods, etc.  It's also a great time to try out new exercises.  The main focus is going with how you feel and having fun!

For this play time workout, we ended up writing down a few exercises in our exercise log to start us off.  However, we did not create the full workout at the outset, as we wanted to see how it would evolve.  We also didn't stipulate any number of sets to do.  Finally, although we did many of the same exercises, we each had the option to pick individual exercises.  In sequence, here's what we did:

Warm-up: 2 sets of Turkish Get Ups (Tannys - 12kg; Alex - 24kg)

Exercise 1: Alex - 2 drop-sets of weighted pullups (48kg, 40kg, 32kg, 24kg); Tannys - 2 sets of bodyweight pullups

Exercise 2: Alex - 3 sets of Reeves deadlifts; Tannys - 3 sets of kettlebell deadlifts (48kg)

Exercise 4: Alex - 2 sets of Kettlebell suitcase deadlifts (48kg); Tannys - 2 sets of kettlebell renegade rows (16kg)

Exercise 5: 2 sets of kettlebell Kroc rows (Alex - 48kg; Tannys - 20kg)

Exercise 6: One set of pullups with negative (slow lower) on the final rep

Extra bonus: One extra negative without other pullups

This was a fun workout!  There was no pressure to perform any number of reps or even sets, which allowed us to go by the way we felt.  Although we wouldn't recommend using this free-form style all the time, it certainly was a good change of pace.  As we went through the workout, we realized that we were focusing more on pulling movements.  This was quite advantageous, as we planned to do another full body workout the following day.  Now we can use pressing movements for that - stay
 tuned for that post!
