A Beginner, Bodyweight Workout

Hey everyone,

The last time we posted a beginner, bodyweight workout it seemed to resonate with a number of readers (http://couplefit.blogspot.ca/2012/06/how-can-i-become-fit-and-lean-without.html).  We heard that it was a helpful starting point for exercising and even useful for more experienced fitness advocates when doing a workout at home without equipment or when travelling.  Thus, we have created a new beginner, bodyweight workout for you to try!

This is a circuit-based workout, in which you will do each of the 7 exercises consecutively, without rest.  Once you have completed a circuit, you can take a rest period.  In total, we would recommend trying to do 2 to 3 circuits if time allows and you are completing the circuit without major difficulty.

If you are wondering how many reps to perform in each exercise, we recommend that you aim to challenge yourself.  For example, that might entail doing 8 reps in one exercise and 12 in another.  That's perfectly okay!  Each exercise will challenge you in a different way - some may be more difficult than others.  The main focus is on working the muscles and having fun, while being challenged.  If you have a pen and paper handy and can record your reps, you can always try to increase them the next time you do this workout.

Give this full body workout a try and let us know what you think.  Since it does work many of the muscles in your body, we would recommend taking at least one rest day in between workouts.  An active recovery day where you walk, do another activity and stretch may help if you feel sore.  We hope you enjoy your workout!
