Five Rep Challenge

Hey everyone,

In today's workout, we invented and tried out the 'Five Rep Challenge'.  This is an easily adaptable challenge, which you can do with almost any exercise.  You can even change the rep range - it doesn't have to be five reps, although that number worked out nicely for us!

New Workouts, Based On the Most Effective Exercises

Hey everyone,

We try to stay up-to-date on new practices and events in the fitness world by regularly perusing certain fitness blogs.  Recently, while reading through Ben Bruno's excellent compilation of 'Good Reads' (, we checked out an article titled 'Top 10 Weight Training Exercises for Building Muscle' (  This article provided an interesting take on the most effective exercises, which inspired us to modify our workouts.

So far after 2 workouts, we haven't transformed into Arnold - but they were good workouts!

Some Things to Avoid During Pregnancy

It is a very exciting time once you conceive.  You should continue with healthy nutrition and lifestyle behaviours you adopted while trying to get pregnant.  See my previous post for more information on: . As well, to help ensure a healthy pregnancy outcome, you should make a few more diet and lifestyle changes again at this time.

Hard vs. Simple

Hey everyone,

Over the last couple of days, we did two very different workouts.  In both cases, we came home from work and weren't really feeling in the mood to exercise.  By taking a few minutes to mentally move past the workday, have a snack, and motivate each other, we committed to working out.  Again, this is an example of where working out as a couple (or with a friend) can help you stay committed to your fitness.

Weekend workouts - A great opportunity!

Hey everyone,

There was some decent weather over the weekend, so we took advantage of it.  One of our workouts was a nice 8km jog.  We are not huge proponents of steady-state cardio (compared to more effective and efficient intervals, such as sprints), but sometimes it's nice to go for a leisurely run and savour the fresh air and sunshine.

Hybrid Workout

Hey everyone,

For today's lower body workout, we decided to combine strength and conditioning components.  Our last few workouts have been density-style or FGB (due to time constraints), so we wanted to focus on heavy lifts and building strength, without neglecting our conditioning.
