We have really enjoyed the countdown workout format lately. It is very efficient and scaleable to how much time you have available (by picking a different starting point (# of reps), and/or by choosing a different number of exercises).
For this countdown workout, we chose 4 different lower body exercises, with one exercise both right and left-sided, for a total of 6 exercises. For kettlebell swings, we performed one heavy set and one lighter set. We divided the exercises into triplets and completed the first three exercises before moving onto the second triplet.
Here is what we did:
Triplet A
- Kettlebell swings (heavy)
- Hip thrusts - right leg
- Hip thrusts - left leg
Triplet B
- Kettlebell deadlifts (lighter)
- Kettlebell swings
- Kettlebell goblet squats
By picking these compound movements and lifting challenging weights, we ensured that we got a great lower body workout. The countdown format is great too, since you become even more motivated as you count down towards your final reps (despite being quite tired at that point in the workout!).
