On Friday evening, we were not scheduled to do a workout. Lately, we have been trying to do two workout days, followed by a rest day (which works well with our current upper and lower body split). However, this night we felt the urge to exercise. We were careful to not overdo anything and tried to pick some exercises which were different than covered in our previous two workouts. In essence, it was a bit of a random workout!
As we weren't in a rush, we chose to do three sets of three exercises. Alex really wanted to do some barbell cleans, so we started with those. Afterwards, we chose to do a tricep and then a bicep exercise, since we rarely devote time to those 'supporting' muscle groups in our normal workouts. Here's what we did:
- Barbell/kettlebell cleans
- Gorilla press (FYI - this is basically an underhand, close-grip bench press)
- Barbell curls
Demonstration of kettlebell cleans
This was a quick workout, but satisfied our craving to do some exercise. It was also a nice change to focus on our triceps and biceps, since they typically play a supporting role for the major muscle groups.
