Strength Plus Tabata!

Hey everyone,

For today's lower body workout, we wanted to ensure that we targeted both strength and conditioning.  Lately, we have combined regular sets with finishing circuits to achieve this.  Today, we switched it up and chose three foundational leg exercises, which were followed by Tabata sets.  The result was a great blend of strength work and fast-paced conditioning.

Saturday morning run

Hey everyone,

On Saturday morning, we strapped on our Vibram Five Fingers and headed outside for a run.  We also brought along our ipod, which we discovered has a Nike Fitness+ app which tracks your distance and time.  We find that a weekend morning is a perfect time to run.  The day stretches out in front of you and you can enjoy every moment of your run.  The air is cool and crisp, not yet laden with summer humidity.  The sky is clear and the sun is beginning to sharpen in the sky.

Some strength, some circuit

Hey everyone,

After work, we came home and got ready for our upper body workout.  We wanted to include some strength work, while also focusing on conditioning.  Thus, we chose to do a strength + circuit workout to meet both objectives.

Fight Gone Bad - In the Morning

Hey everyone,

The other morning, we woke up before 5:30am and stumbled downstairs.  The impending reality of a Fight Gone Bad workout began to sharpen into painful focus as we wrapped our fingers around the steel handles of the kettlebells...

Fit Travel

Hey everyone,

There's nothing worse than coming back from a holiday feeling unhealthy from eating out and deviating from your usual fitness routine...  We just got back from a long weekend away in Montreal, and although we definitely ate more (and less healthy) than usual, we managed to fit in two workouts.

A random workout

Hey everyone,

On Friday evening, we were not scheduled to do a workout.  Lately, we have been trying to do two workout days, followed by a rest day (which works well with our current upper and lower body split).  However, this night we felt the urge to exercise.  We were careful to not overdo anything and tried to pick some exercises which were different than covered in our previous two workouts.  In essence, it was a bit of a random workout!

Strength + Circuit

Hey everyone,

For an evening workout, Alex was craving some strength training, while Tannys wanted to push the pace and complete some circuits.  So, what did we do?  We designed a strength + circuit combo, targeting our upper body.  With the exception of a mid-workout injury (details below), it was successful and enjoyable!

Ideally it's from delayed onset muscle soreness, not a strained muscle!

Customized morning workout

Hey everyone,

With some busy evening plans, we chose to do another morning workout.  Although getting up at 5:30am can be a shock to the system, it always feels amazing to finish the workout and feel so energized throughout the rest of the morning.  It's a great way to start your day - with an immediate feeling of accomplishment!

Suspension training workout - upper body

Hey everyone,

After the last lower-body workout, we were really excited to try out some upper body exercises on our new Jungle Gym XT.  Since circuit-training worked well for our last workout, we designed another circuit focused on upper body exercises.

Suspension training workout - lower body

Hey everyone,

We were very excited to try our first real workout with the Jungle Gym XT.  For this workout, we chose to focus on lower body exercises, using a circuit-style.  It turned out to be a great workout - we are loving the Jungle Gym XT!

Two great morning workouts!

Hey everyone,

This week we decided to do two back-to-back morning workouts. Due to evening commitments, we knew we would not get a chance to exercise after work and did not want to let this interfere with our routine.

Adapting to musculosketeletal changes in pregnancy

Hey everyone,

During pregnancy, your body is going through many changes, including increased laxity (i.e. looseness) of your joints and muscles.  Due to these changes, you may need to modify your exercise routine, as you may be more prone to injury.

It is Friday!

Hey everyone,

We were really happy to finally reach Friday - what an awesome feeling!  For our workout today, we tried out a couple of brand new exercises (thank you, Ben Bruno, for the inspiration), along with a couple of reliable staples from our repertoire.  It was a good way to segue into the weekend!

"Suck it up, buttercup"

Hey everyone,

It was one of those weeks where you're tired, distracted, and lacking motivation to workout...  To quote from someone at my work though, "suck it up, buttercup".  Sometimes you have to persevere - not every workout will be an incredible one and in the end, consistency counts.  That's why we soldiered through a leg (quad-dominant) workout, which admittedly got more enjoyable partway through when we were warmed up.
