Happy New Year! Our 5 new fitness principles of 2012.

Hey everyone,

Welcome to 2012! The start of a new year is always exciting, as it prompts you to revisit your previous goals and measure your achievements, as well as establish new goals and resolutions for yourself.

We are particularly excited to start this new year off with five new fitness principles that we will employ and build upon throughout the upcoming 12 months:

1. Simplify.  There is a natural tendency to complicate things or perceive more value in the complex, rather than the simple.  However, our experience has shown us that, often, less is more.

2. Plan ahead.  In 2011, we were happy that we consistently tracked our workouts in a log.  However, they were designed individually (often the day before), with less focus/thought on how they fit together in an overall program.  In 2012, we want to plan over a longer horizon, to really target our fitness objectives.

3.  Back to basics.  In 2012, we will focus more on core/foundational exercises (i.e. powerlifting and Olympic lifts).  We will be thorough and use good form.  We will practice them through numerous repetitions, relentlessly.  We will become good at them.

4. Hard work.  We will continue to work hard in 2012, pushing ourselves in each and every workout.  All the while, we will be mindful of our physical and psychological state/capacity that day, adapting our workouts accordingly.

5. Set goals.  We will set specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, and time-limited goals for our exercises.  We will work to achieve them.

There you go - our five new fitness principles that we will be using in 2012.  What are your fitness principles?  At the outset of this new year, have you taken the time to reflect and think ahead about your new goals and your approach to achieve them?
