Back at it - a hardcore 4X4 workout!

Hey everyone,

Today, Tannys and I did another 'quatro'-circuit workout, with four circuits of four different exercises (i.e. 16 sets total).  We really gave this one 100%.  Once we had finished and got over that "I'm going to die" feeling, we felt awesome - really satisfied with how challenging it was and how we performed throughout it.

Here's what we did:

  1. Kettlebell thrusters (AKA squat & press - Tannys - 12kg, Alex - 24kg)
  2. Dips
  3. Kettlebell jumping lunges
  4. Ratio exercise - Kettlebell overhead stair carry : pushups (see explanation below - Tannys - 12kg and a 1:10 ratio, Alex - 24kg and a 1:15 ratio)

Our fourth exercise, the ratio of kettlebell overhead stair carry to pushups, was by far the hardest.  A ratio exercise is composed of two movements, done in a specified ratio.  In this example, Tannys did one kettlebell overhead stair carry followed by ten pushups.  She did four of those to equal one set.  Thus, she did four stair carries, as well as forty pushups in a single set.  By the time we got to the fourth circuit and were facing these as the final hurdle, we were really struggling!

What an awesome workout.  It was challenging physically and mentally (to push through the adversity) and really lit our quads, chest, shoulders, triceps, and cores on fire.  You know it's been a good, tough workout when you have to lie down for a few minutes to recover and catch your breath at the end!
