Workouts - Triplets and International Travel

On Saturday morning, before Tannys left for Greece, we did another full body workout.

Tannys doing one-arm rows:

In our previous workout, we did couplets (two exercises performed back-to-back as a mini-circuit).  In Saturday's workout, we did triplets, which is the same concept of a mini-circuit comprised of the three exercises, followed by a short rest.  You repeat the triplet three times, before moving onto the next group of exercises.  This format seemed to work fairly well, as our first triplet focused on lower body moves, while the second triplet focused on upper body.  As well, three exercises in a row seemed to be a decent amount of work before taking a small rest.  As with the couplets, you will complete 18 sets of exercises in the overall workout.

Alex doing weighted dips:

Here's what we did:

  1. Front-loaded step-back lunges (barbell for Alex, kettlebell for Tannys)
  2. Single-leg hip bridges
  3. Kettlebell squats with a one-arm press
  1. (Weighted) dips
  2. Chinups
  3. One-arm rows (using a kettlebell)

We have continued to enjoy the full body workouts.  As you'll see, we chose different exercises from the previous workout.  This was a cautious approach in case the muscles hadn't fully recovered from the previous exercise, as this would challenge them in a slightly different way.  We did notice that the full body workouts are more challenging than our previous splits, as they require full effort and concentration in each exercise and cover more muscle groups overall.  Hopefully this will translate to a better metabolic and hormonal response, allowing us to build more muscle and become more lean.

After our morning workout, Tannys departed for Greece, where she is attending a conference until mid-week.  She has brought her exercise gear and will hopefully blog while she's there, writing about her workouts while travelling.  Stay tuned!
